Conference League: the first pieces of information

Thanks to their 5th place finish in Ligue 1 - for the 4th time in the last 7 seasons - OGC Nice have qualified for the Europa Conference League play-offs. Here is the first update on this competition.

Play-offs on 18 and 25 August

After three qualifying rounds, the play-offs will be played on 18 and 25 August. If they emerge victorious from this two-legged encounter, Gym will advance to the group stage, which will take place from 8 September to 3 November 2022.

WHO ARE THE POTENTIAL OPPONENTS?

Gym will know the name of its play-off opponent on 2 August. Les Niçois are in the 'main path', along with FC Cologne (seventh in the Bundesliga), Fiorentina (seventh in Serie A), as well as the seventh-placed teams in Spain (Villareal or Athletic Bilbao) and England (Manchester United or West Ham). They will be joined by 29 other potential opponents over the course of the summer, as the 26 winners of the third qualifying round (return on 18 July) and the three losers of the third qualifying round of the Europa League will complete the main path.

GYM, 3RD FRENCH CLUB IN CONFERENCE LEAGUE

Launched in the 2020-21 season, the Europa Conference League has been contested by 2 French clubs this season: Stade Rennais and Olympique de Marseille. The Bretons went through the play-offs (against Rosenborg) and emerged from a group consisting of Vitesse Arnhem, Tottenham and NS Mura before losing to Leicester in the last eight. Marseille were relegated to the C4 after finishing third in the Europa League (C3) group stage. They beat Qarabag, Basel and Thessaloniki before falling to Feyenoord of the Netherlands in the semi-finals, who will face AS Roma in the final on Wednesday.
