Crédit Agricole PCA Aiglon of the Match: Gouiri again

With an assist and a goal, Amine Gouiri — with 52% of the vote — took the honours from the Metz game.

Last week, OGCNICE.com shone the spotlight on Amine Gouiri's outstanding stats, and the trip to Metz did not halt the France U21 international's momentum as he added a marker in each column at the Stade Saint-Symphorien.

In spite of three fruitless first-half attempts, Gouiri kept going, buoyed by the confidence born of his season stats. From Calvin Stengs' free-kick, it was his fabulous ball for Khephren Thuram to open the scoring and earn Gouiri a seventh assist. He thought he had then added a second after Evann Guessand won the ball high up the pitch, but VAR ruled it out. It didn't take long to net one that counted though: Guessand winning the penalty, and Gouiri chipping in his tenth goal of the league season from the spot.

Gouiri IN 3 stats

  • Amine Gouiri (21) is the youngest Nice player to reach double figures for goals in Ligue 1 (12 in 2020/21, 10 so far in 2021/22) since Charly Loubet, who was also aged 21 when he achieved the feat in 1965/66 and 1966/67.

  • Amine Gouiri has been involved in 47% of Nice's league goals this season (17/36). Only Kylian Mbappé (18) has been involved in more goals in the French top flight (17: 10 goals, 7 assists) in 2021/22.
  • Amine Gouiri has scored and assisted in the same game six times since making his Nice debut in 2020/21. Only Mbappé has done that more often in L1 in that time (7). It's also his first successful penalty since 28 August 2021 (vs. Bordeaux) having missed his last two.

After opening the scoring — with his second goal in as many games and his third of the season — Thuram came in second (19% of the vote). The midfielder worked hard on both sides of the ball, finishing the game on the right of a midfield four. Jean-Clair Todibo and Jordan Lotomba share the bottom step of the podium (8% each). The former was imperious, and latter got involved going forward too, and won the free-kick that led to the opening goal.
