Nice 2-0 Strasbourg

The four pillars of a stunning win

Le Gym had been chasing the game since the start of the season. This Sunday, they picked up their first win, against Strasbourg, and did so in style (R4, 2-0). Here's a (non-exhaustive) look back at the four pillars of a stunning collective victory.

Todibo and Dante at the helm

JC Todibo and Dante were imperious in all defensive duties, and were also responsible for both of Le Gym's goals. Both now have an assist to their name in the 2023-24 season - a tenth in Rouge et Noir for Dante - while Francesco Farioli's side are top of the defensive rankings after four rounds, with just two goals conceded.

Extra stat: Dante (Nice) provided his third assist in Ligue 1 in 2023, with only Facundo Medina (four with Lens) providing more in that period among centre-backs.

Todibo, for his part, made the first assist of his career when he set up Moffi in space. JC shone brightly and was voted the Aiglon of the Match by the fans, with 40% of the votes. The icing on the cake was a call-up to the French national team after a Sunday in which he was the player with the highest percentage of duels won among the starters, both teams combined (86%).

Atal the dynamo

Since his arrival in 2018, Atal has been known for his individual exploits, and against Racing, he once again shone brightly. With just three touches of the ball, Youcef Atal delighted the Allianz Riviera. In stoppage time in the first half, the Fennec scored his 12th goal for the Gym, his eighth at the Allianz Riviera, his home ground, and his first since a trip to Lorient on 30 October 2022 - all with the same signature style. Fresh and exciting, Youcef came second in the Aiglon of the Match poll (28%).

Moffi - mobile and deadly

Terem Moffi rounded out the podium with 8% of the vote. Available and generous, the centre-forward created a number of dangerous situations with his movement, power and team spirit. Although he hit the post in the second half, he found the net again with 15 minutes remaining, in a style that sums him up perfectly: devouring space, accelerating and breaking clean through into the penalty area. After signing in January 2023, Terem Moffi now has ten goals in 24 games for OGC Nice.

Extra stat: since the start of last season (which began versus Lorient), Nice striker Terem Moffi has scored 95% of his Ligue 1 goals from inside the box (18/19).
