Match report

Le Gym held in Angers (1-1)

The Ligue 1 Uber Eats Round 29 match between Angers and Nice ended in a 1-1 draw. Le Gym are eighth on the table with 45 points.

This match away to Angers had all the trappings of a banana skin... and Le Gym slipped up. Despite a quality first half, Didier Digard's team couldn't make the difference at the Stade Raymond Kopa. As a result, they have dropped in the standings, seeing Reims pass them by and Lille go further clear - even if the die is not yet cast in this final stretch of the championship.

However, Nice's start to the game gave little indication of the outcome. After four minutes of play, Moffi perfectly concluded a deft collective move that saw Thuram conjured a superb pass for Laborde to cut back for the finish.

Lined up in a 4-3-3, with Antoine Mendy on the right of the defence, Rosario in holding midfield and a trio Laborde - Moffi - Pepe in front, Les Aiglons were looking good after their goal, but Niane's equaliser - which saw him pounce on a misunderstanding between Todibo and Schmeichel - threw a veil of doubt on the red and black XI. After ten minutes of hesitation, Nice got back on track, creating chances, but Laborde and Moffi were just short of crosses from Ramsey (26') and Pepe respectively (31').

At the break, optimism was the order of the day. Unfortunately, the second half was not the same as the previous one. The match became more and more balanced.

Le Gym committed technical errors in all areas of the field: early in the second half, Schmeichel had to rush out at pace to prevent Niane from pouncing on a bad back-pass from Melvin Bard (48'). Shortly before the hour-mark, Laborde had a beautiful header swatted wide by Bernardoni. On the hour-mark, Moffi blazed over.

Angers started to get bolder, and the match opened up on both sides. Nice had some chances thanks to surging runs from Thuram, but Pepe was beaten by Doumbia (72') and then Hountoundji (79'). On the other side, Le SCO were content not to play transitions at full speed, showing a consistent approach in the second half.

Le Gym finished the match with an offensive 3-4-3: Schmeichel - Ndayishimiye, Todibo, Dante © - Beka Beka, Thuram, Barkley, Brahimi - Pepe, Laborde, Bouanani.

But Nice couldn't get the win. They will play host to Paris in their Round 30 clash next Saturday (kick-off 21:00).
