Aiglon of the match

A triumphant return for Boudaoui

Having returned to the starting XI on Saturday, Hicham Boudaoui is your Aiglon of the Match from the 1-0 win away to Metz, picking up 34% of the votes.

Elegance, efficiency and accuracy – these were the traits with which the ‘Prince of Béchar’ made his mark on the trip to the Stade Saint-Symphorien. In what was his 117th appearance for Le Gym as well as his second start of the season, the midfielder shone in ethereal fashion, and as the scorer of the game’s only goal – which was also his tenth for Les Rouge et Noir – Boudaoui did what Boudaoui does best: running, thinking of the team, pulling off some delightful bits of skill, defending and then, under pressure but with agility nonetheless, taking his time when the match required him to do so. All in all, it was a strong, match-winning and team-orientated performance from the Algerian.

After providing the former Paradou AC man with a magnificent assist, Melvin Bard follows closely behind him with 30% of the votes. Continuing his fine early-season form, Le Gym’s left-back was seemingly brimming with confidence, both in his defensive duties and in his forward runs.

Finally, with 20% of the votes, Jean-Clair Todibo completes the top three. The centre-back, who remains as invaluable as ever, set two new Ligue 1 records by not only registering 190 touches but also completing 181 passes (ahead of Thiago Motta’s total of 164 passes against SC Bastia on 8th January 2016). Le Gym, meanwhile, have now kept five clean sheets in their eight games so far this season.
