Gouiri, a man of influence

Aftre an assist against Nantes, Amine Gouiri has picked up where he left off at the start of the year 2022. And the Nice No.11's regularity gets even more impressive when you look at national or continental competitions...

His drought during 5 matches, from the 15th to the 19th matchdays, was rare enough to be surprising and rare enough to prompt us to take a look at his 63 matches in the rouge et noir shirt to see if Amine Gouiri had already gone through a similar period since his arrival at the Gym in the summer of 2020. After checking, the answer is positive, but nuanced: the former Lyon player never stays quiet for long. After his brace against Lens at the start of last season, the droughtlasted five games. Between the end of the last league campaign and the beginning of the current one, the total rises to 6.

BEHIND HAALAND AND SANCHO

25 goals, 14 assists: these are Gouiri's stats in all competitions for the rouge et noir. This influence grows stronger with each passing weekend. On the left of a 4-3-3 in his first season at Nice, he moved into the middle in his second. This freedom gives him a key role in the Gym's attacking game. It allows him to play, to bring people into play, and very often, to finish the moves off. He has hit eight shots from counter-attacks this season, a figure surpassed only by Terem Moffi of Lorient (9).

In addition, he has been involved in 15 goals this season, with nine goals and six assists, including an assist for Khephren Thuram against Nantes on Friday (2-1). This is at least twice as many as any other Aiglon (Dolberg and Delort are involved in 7 goals), which puts him on the podium of the most involved players in L1, behind Kylian Mbappé (involved in 18 goals) and Ludovic Ajorque (16).

Gouiri has scored or set up 15 goals in his last two seasons in Ligue 1. In European football, only two other players born in 2000 or later can boast such a record over more seasons in the big five leagues: Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund, 3) and Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United, 3). There are three who have more in their respective leagues in 2021-22: Haaland (Dortmund, involved in 20 goals), Vlahovic (Fiorentina, 18) and Vinicius (Real Madrid, 16).
