Hommage

A special shirt to ensure we never forget

On Saturday, as spectators return to the Allianz Riviera, the Rouge et Noir family will come together to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the attack on 14th July 2016, before kick-off in the match against Le Mans. For the first time ever, and to mark the occasion, Olivier Pantaloni’s men will don their third kit, designed entirely by OGC Nice and Kappa as a tribute to the memory of the victims of the tragedy.

Ten years have passed since that fateful night that struck Nice. Ten years during which the memory of the victims has never left the city, nor its club. One symbol has endured through the years: a heart formed from the names of the 86 people who lost their lives. It features this season on every Aiglons kit and on the arm of every red-and-black captain.

With the kit unveiled today, OGC Nice has sought to go one step further by designing its third kit entirely as a tribute. Its golden colour draws inspiration from light: the light of the 86 beams that rise from the Promenade des Anglais towards the Nice sky during memorial ceremonies and also the light of the thousands of camera flashes that illuminate the Allianz Riviera in the 86th minute of every match, a tradition that many French and European stadiums have since adopted.

The gold also evokes another light: that of the stars, whose symbolic arrangement on the front of the shirt traces the curve of the Baie des Anges, inscribing their memory into the very silhouette of Nice. On the back, the date 14th July 2016 is displayed beneath the collar.

Halfway between the night of remembrance and the light of a new day, the images accompanying this unveiling evoke both the memory of those who are no longer with us and the fact that, despite everything, life goes on.

A light that endures. A memory that never fades. Ten years on, OGC Nice has not forgotten.
