Laurent Abergel signs for Nice
OGC Nice is delighted to announce the signing of Laurent Abergel. The French midfielder has joined Le Gym after seven seasons with FC Lorient, where he became an undisputed team leader and one of the club’s emblematic captains.
With more than 300 professional appearances to his name, Laurent Abergel arrives in Nice with outstanding knowledge and experience of French football. A tireless ball-winner, known for his exceptional work rate and team spirit, his consistency season after season has built a fantastic reputation both on and off the pitch.
Above and beyond his sporting qualities, it is also the personality of Nice’s new No.19 that won over the Rouge et Noir decision makers. True to his word, honest, and appreciated by all his teammates, Laurent Abergel personifies the values of the Club.
“Laurent is a player whose reputation goes far beyond the football pitch. His career, his professionalism and his attitude speak for themselves. We welcome a man who is loyal to his club and respected everywhere he has played, who shares the values we defend at OGC Nice,” declared President Maurice Cohen. “His transfer perfectly corresponds to our identity.”

For Gym’s new Sporting Director Roger Ricort, this signing meets both the sporting and the human criteria the club is searching for:
“We wanted a player capable of bringing balance, experience and a lot of character to our squad. Laurent possesses a very high football IQ, boasts a huge work rate and is a natural leader. He’s a very demanding competitor who always puts the team first. His profile is exactly that which we were looking for.”
At 33 years of age, Laurent Abergel is ready for his new challenge in Rouge et Noir:
“I am enormously proud to join OGC Nice. It is an historic and ambitious club, that has passionate fans. Right from the first contact, I could feel the confidence the club had in me and a common vision. I have signed here with a lot of desire and ambition on the pitch, but also with the aim of helping the squad with my experience. Giving the maximum for the team has always been the way I’ve approached my job and I am very happy to be joining a club that shares those values.”
Bienvenue Laurent!
