Nice - Marseille
OGC Nice statement following Mrs Maracineanu’s comments
OGC Nice is outraged by the comments from Roxana Maracineanu on the L’Equipe du Soir show on Thursday evening, in which it was claimed that OGC Nice did not press for charges against those involved in the incidents in the recent match between Nice and Marseille.
That the Minister Delegate in charge of Sports be capable of both being unaware of the subject that she was discussing and then to make such an incorrect statement in a television studio is edifying and unacceptable when speaking on such a sensitive topic for the whole of French football.
From the day after Nice - Marseille, the OGC Nice Board clearly took on its responsibilities and stated that the club would take action against those individuals identified by the police. And that is what was done. Charges that were handed over as part of the investigation by the LFP’s disciplinary commission. These facts are easily checked and therefore make it inexplicable that they be spoken about ignorantly. It would seem that this stance doesn’t always reach certain parts of the capital, yet OGC Nice is obliged to remind all parties that it has always condemned violence. Violence and those who commit it have no place in a stadium. The club makes that entirely clear.
However, OGC Nice appreciates the new approach from the Minister Delegate for Sports on the preference for individual punishments rather than group sanctions in order to bring an end to violence in stadia. A stance that the club has always defended.
