Club Statement

Gauthier Ganaye named OGC Nice president

Meeting on Wednesday 30 January 2019, the OGC Nice Supervisory Board brought to an end, with immediate effect the mandates of Jean-Pierre Rivère (President) and Julien Fournier (Deputy CEO).

Via President Chien Lee, the Supervisory Board ‘thanks Jean-Pierre Rivère and Julien Fournier for the work achieved at the helm of the club since 2011. Under their direction, OGC Nice has taken on a whole new dimension, both on and off the pitch.’

Their excellent work led Chien Lee, Alex Zheng and Paul Conway, accompanied by Elliot Hayes, to invest in OGC Nice in June 2016 to support and accelerate its development. What followed was the club’s best league finish in 41 years (3rd in 2016-17) and two European campaigns in 2016-17 and 2017-18.

All parties now agree that a fresh impetus is required to continue leading the club forward and assure the future success of the project.

To do this, a new Managing Board was named, comprising:

  • Gauthier Ganaye, Management Board President (CEO)
  • Claude Li, Management Board Directeur General (Deputy CEO)

The new Management Board is effective immediately.

Chien Lee, President of the Supervisory Board: “With a new chapter in the long history of OGC Nice opening today, we want each and every member of the Rouge et Noir family to be convinced that we are committed to the long-term and that we have big ambitions for OGC Nice. We have every confidence in the new Board to continue the work undertaken by Jean-Pierre Rivère and Julien Fournier and to continue the development of the club.”

Gauthier Ganaye, OGC Nice President: “I would like to thank the Supervisory Board for the confidence that have placed in me and I can’t wait to officially begin my functions as President of such a prestigious institution as OGC Nice. A football club in not a business like any other; OGC Nice represents a region and its inhabitants. I want to immerse myself in its history and its identity in order to bring all its elements together around a common project. I can’t wait to meet everyone that makes up OGC Nice: the players, the staff, the employees, the supporters and the partners.”

Gauthier GANAYE

Gauthier Ganaye was successively Director of the Legal Service, Secretary General and Director of Marketing and Development at RC Lens between 2013 and 2017. He then became the first Frenchman to be the Chief Executive Officer of a professional football club in England, Barnsley Football Club, on 12 June 2017. He has worked until today towards promotion (Barnsley is currently 3rd in League One) alongside Chien Lee, Grace Hung and Paul Conway who bought the club six months later.

Claude LI

Deputy Managing Director of OGC Nice since October 2017 after eight years as partner of an international auditing and consulting firm in Paris, Claude Li takes over from Julien Fournier as the Rouge et Noir’s Deputy CEO.
