J. Fournier assesses the Nice transfer window

Julien Fournier (director of football) gave his opinion on the transfer window during a press conference on Friday.

The spirit

"The first recruitment was to attract the French champion coach, which is no mean feat. Andy (Delort) has made it clear: one of the extremely important reasons for his arrival is the presence of Christophe Galtier. It's important to have a coach who can attract top players. We are delighted. I think we've brought in some good players. We've added experience to this group, without having extremely old players. Pablo Rosario, Mario Lemina, Justin Kluivert, Calvin Stengs: they are international players, of high level, who are still young. We're very happy with that."

Competition

"One very important thing: we think - and Andy's arrival is an example of this - that we have brought in some real competition in all positions. We are almost able to swap players without weakening the team. What interests me as a director is also to see how our players behave in the presence of this competition. To see if there are some who will give up and if some, on the contrary, will take on the competition and become number one ahead of the others."

Caution

"Like many directors, we're quite happy to have achieved the objectives we set ourselves. The recruitment team works a lot all year long and sincerely, I think that we have worked well. But it's complicated to make our own assessment. It's a cliché, but we tend to assess the transfer window at the end of the season. I remember that last year, we were praised. L'Equipe ranked us first in the recruitment rankings, and you saw the more than average season we had. So let's be careful not to make judgements.
