Nice 0-0 Reims

Le Gym blocked by Reims

On Sunday, Les Aiglons shared the points with Reims on Matchday 32 of L1 (0-0).

A point that extends the positive run and was achieved thanks to discipline, solidity and a 4-3-3 that Le Gym's defensive base (Todibo, Saliba and Schneiderlin) dominated throughout. But there is also an element of frustration, born out of an encounter that lacked inspiration. Les Aiglons' Sunday afternoon could be summarised in a few chances in their favour and a couple of chances conceded at the other end of the pitch, the bulk of the possession, territorial domination and in the end, a point taken from a robust opposition that they just couldn't quite put under enough pressure.

Shaken from the get go, they were always equal to the Reims attacks, be they led by Cafaro, long-ranged efforts, or down the wings and finishing in the box, an area of the pitch in which Saliba maintained complete domination. The only time that the Nice defence was really troubled was from a run in deep by Touré, which concluded with a shot under the bar. But Les Aiglons had stepped up just in time to leave the SDR forward in an offside position at the end of the match.

At the other end, Les Rouge et Noir created a couple of chances. During the first half, Schneiderlin's header was turned over the bar by Rajkovic, then two runs from Thuram were thwarted by the visitors' defence.

In the second half, Les Aiglons tried to push forward, inspired by the energetic arrival of Myziane (who should have been awarded a penalty) to replace Gouiri, who was taken off as a precaution (calf) at the break. But despite several set-pieces and two strikes at goal from Lees-Melou and Claude-Maurice, Nice didn't trouble Reims.

The game therefore logically ended with both sides still on level terms.

Next up for Les Aiglons: a trip to Dijon next Sunday.
