New deal for lees-melou!

After joining OGC Nice in the summer of 2017, Pierre Lees-Melou has extended his contract with Les Rouge et Noir, Patrick Vieira announced this Friday in the traditional pre-match press conference.

On 26 July 2017, he played his first official match for Le Gym, during a Champions League Q3 against at home to Ajax. Since his debut, both in Nice and in Europe, Pierre Lees-Melou has established himself as an integral cog in the Nice team, under the direction of Lucien Favre and then Patrick Vieira.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who's only two professional clubs Dijon and Nice, has played 110 matches in just under 3 seasons - the 2019-20 season having been interrupted prematurely due to the global pandemic. His consistency rewarded with excellent statistics (13 goals and 15 assists including 5 goals and 6 assists last season).

"Pierre is a very important player in a group. The coach has always said that. He is a lad you can count on. We are very happy that he is continuing the adventure with us," rejoiced Jean-Pierre Rivère.

P. Vieira: 'Very good news!'

During Friday’s pre-match press conference, Patrick Vieira spoke about the new contract for midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou.

It’s very good news! Pierre is an important player. I’m really very happy to keep working with him. He is one of the leaders whose job it is to encourage the squad and ensure we play well against Paris on Sunday. I like his commitment. The club convinced him to commit to the project they’re building. Pierre knows that he can play an important role in this project. Now he will have the responsibility to give everything to help progress the young players around him.

Les Aiglons coach continued: “He is a player that has become a match winner, his stats last season were very positive. He is progressing. He now needs to show more leadership on the pitch because he is one of the team’s technical leaders. He needs to get on the ball more, make the difference more often, and be more involved in the middle of the park. I am counting a lot on him. He is one of the players, like Walter, that are part of the club, that believe in the project. They help the new players settle in, show them the ropes and that is very important.
