For the first game of their Austrian training camp and their sixth pre-season encounter, Le Gym were impressive in a 6-0 win over FC DAC on Saturday.

In sweltering temperatures, Les Aiglons confirmed their upward trajectory that they had started in earnest in Liege. Amine Gouiri's early goal — the fruit of smart interplay with Myziane Maolida — put them on the right track against the side that finished third in Slovakia last season and defeated Marseille last week.

The Rouge-et-Noir looked good all over the park. Defensively first of all, compact and with great collective discipline. With the ball, there was a desire to play simply and quickly, limiting the number of touches and moving their opponents left to right, across the pitch and back again. And then there was the speed when the chance came to break…

They shone as a team, but there were some great individual performances too, notably Morgan Schneiderlin, flawless as a 6, and Gouiri, who was both industrious and inspired.

The training camp — the second of the summer — now begins in earnest, and will conclude with another friendly, this time again against RB Salzburg next Saturday.

The Goals

1-0 (1’) Sent clear by Myziane quite beautifully, Gouiri accelerates through the middle and wins his one-on-one with Jedlicka.

2-0 (3’) Racing down the left, Myziane moves into the box, plays a one-two with Gouiri, and then gives his approach work the finish it deserves.

3-0 (34’) After a marvellous team move which sees the ball move from left flank to right, Alexis Claude-Maurice gets on the ball, and slips a clever shot in at the near post.

4-0 (45’) Atal finds Boudaoui on the right. He gives it back to the raiding full-back, who sends over a deep cross for Myziane, who finishes acrobatically.

5-0 (54’) Les Aiglons take their time, play the ball out from the back with a number of short passes. Atal takes possession, skips around his man and finds Claude-Maurice, who sends the ball into the open goal.

6-0 (83’) Gouiri earns himself a brace with some wonderful work. The forward nutmegs the last defender and then eases round the goalkeeper before slipping the ball home.
