Friendly matches

Playing time: how are les aiglons doing?

Back in training since 15 June, Les Aiglons are hard at work preparing for the new Ligue 1 campaign. With one month to go before the new season kicks off against Lens on 23 August, Patrick Vieira’s men have already played four friendly matches, including two in 48 hours in the Trophée Veolia (1-1 vs Celtic, 0-2 vs Rangers). In terms of playing time, it’s a chance to have a closer look at the numbers...

THE NEW BOYS!

While we wait for the competitive matches to begin, four of the five new signings have already taken their first steps in Rouge et Noir. The most-used new Aiglon is none other than Amine Gouiri. With 232 minutes on the pitch, the ex-Lyon forward is the player with the second-most playing time of the squad.

Behind the No.11, comes Hassane Kamara, who also played in all four matches (188’).

The defenders Bambu and Flavius Daniliuc are the other new faces with 142' and 137', respectively.

Having arrived during the last winter mercato, Alexis Trouillet didn’t get the chance to show off his skills last season, but the elegant midfielder has been showing his wares this summer with 170 minutes on the pitch.

In both Divonne-les-Bains and Lyon, Morgan Schneiderlin continues to train and improve his fitness, but he is yet to run out on his new colours.

FAMILIAR FACES WORKING HARD

The established first-team players such as Dante, Pierre Lees-Melou and Kasper Dolberg have already been getting minutes under their belts. The central defender leads the way with 236 minutes of playing time ahead of the former Dijon man with 199 and 179 for the Dane, who also got on the scoresheet against Celtic (1-1).

There was more good news with the return of Youcef Atal. Back after his knee injury suffered last December, the full-back made three appearances at Groupama Stadium, and one at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, for a total of 191 minutes.

THE KIDS SHINING

Of the 28 players used - Ganago, transferred to Lens, is no longer part of the squad – only five players played an entire match: Dante, Gouiri, Sacko, Thuram and Pelmard. With 203 minutes, the academy graduate defender is the third-most used player.

Aged just 20, Pelmard is almost a veteran compared to some of the young Aiglons finding their wings this summer. While Brazão (17, 182’) and Wade (20, 63’) have already played with the pros, Pionnier (18, 79’), Parsemain (17, 83’), Ben Seghir (17, 83’, photo) and Boulhendi (19, 89’) all took their first-team bows this summer.
