Patrick Vieira looked back over his side’s performance in their first friendly of pre-season against Lyon (1-0). 

How are you feeling after this first friendly? 
"I am happy with the commitment of my players, the intensity that we put into the game. There were difficult moments, but it was still a good first match. We played against a side that has a week’s head-start on us in their pre-season, so we knew that it would be tough from the start but the players stood up and were counted."

The team showed a lot of desire and seriousness… 
"We know that we need to improve tactically and collectively. We tried to add impact defensively and that’s positive. We will continue to work in this way."

Are you satisfied with the performances of your new recruits? 
"Our objective is to add competition to the squad and these players want to play, they were very good. It will help to increase everybody’s level.

A word on the youngsters? 
"Trouillet showed that he has got quality, Andy (Pelmard) lasted the 90 minutes with Sacko, so it was a good match."

How have these last few months been for you? 
"We have been through three frustrating months, but we adhered to the decision that was taken. We have missed being on the pitch, it’s brilliant to be playing again. The players have come back in good shape, so it’s a good omen for what is to come." 

What impact did the context of the game have?
"We felt that lack of ambiance and atmosphere. It’s tough to play in these conditions, but we will get on with it."

The objectives for the training camp?
"We will need to continue to improve, particularly in the defensive phases. We have put in place strong foundations that we need to continue to work on."
