COVID-19

Le Gym’s mobilisation to fight the effects of COVID-19

Extremely active since the start of the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, the Club, through its Endowment Fund continues more than ever to support the medical and social entities working in the region

After an initial delivery of goods, essential food items and hygiene kits at the very start of the health crisis to support the medical staff at the CHU de Nice, the CCAS de la Ville de Nice, the Banque Alimentaire des Alpes-Maritimes and numerous other local charities supporting those most in need, Le Gym hasn’t faltered in its support for those fighting the crisis! With the health crisis leading to a social and economic crisis, OGC Nice has continued to increase its support for local organisations in need of help. Each of these with the objective of providing help where it is asked for and in order to be of greatest use to the greatest number of Azuréens being impacted by the Coronavirus.

Leading the front line in the battle against the virus, the staff at the CHU de Nice hospitals  (Pasteur, L’Archet and Cimiez) received a second batch of sweets and other food products. A delivery that was supported by Alexis Claude-Maurice, who has been touched by the sacrifices made on a daily basis by the staff at the hospitals. In addition to this, after a request from the CHU to the Club, the Endowment Fund created personalised bags that can be used to provide lockdown kits to COVID-19 patients leaving hospital.

Other medical establishments including the Clinique Saint-Antoine and the Hôpital Sainte-Marie also received deliveries with numerous goods in order to boost spirits among all of their teams.

The OGC Nice Endowment Fund financed the purchase of tablets for the Centre Antoine Lacassagne (the  regional centre for the fight against cancer), so that all of its patients could remain in touch with their loved ones despite the lockdown. The staff weren’t forgotten either and received chocolate and cereal bars so that their breaks could be slightly more enjoyable.

While the school closures and furlough schemes have put lots of families in tremendous difficulty, OGC Nice has provided support to the Secours Populaire des Alpes-Maritimes. Support that has allowed the charity to buy food and essential items, which can be delivered to the poorest families and used during the daily efforts of the Secours Populaire to help the homeless across the Departement.

With charities needing more support than ever in order to ensure that the most in need are not forgotten, Le Gym continued its support of the Banque Alimentaire des Alpes-Maritimes (food bank) and the Inter Secours Nice (ISN),  and ADAM charities working in the west of Nice, or even  Les Anges de la Baie de NiceSolidarité 06 and Café Suspendu. Without forgetting the CCAS de Nice and its shelters for those people without a fixed and stable home.

Following a request from Restos du Cœur des Alpes-Maritimes, the Endowment Fund also made sure that 1,200 families living in the Departement could receive chocolates at Easter. A small token to bring smiles to the faces of those living at the heart of the crisis.

The Rouge & Noir family have also continued to support the older generation, who are particularly at risk from the virus and often finding themselves isolate due to the quarantine measures. Patrick Vieira purchased a tablet for each of the 250 residents of the four care homes managed by the Ville de Nice, so that they can maintain a link with their children and grandchildren, while Le Gym also delivered biscuits and chocolates. A donation was also made to the other care homes in the Departement (Nice, Cagnes sur mer, Colomars, etc.) and will be of use both to their residents and the staff.

Thanks to the mobilisation of several partners, OGC Nice has been able to provide assistance to the most pressing needs. A thousand masks were provided to the Banque Alimentaire des Alpes-Maritimes whose stock room had run out. Care homes, hospitals and charities have received coffee machines, which are vital for the professionals working during this time. The Association MIR has been able to stock up on bedding and electrical goods for a house used by women in distressing circumstance, opened in Contes, after a request was made by the DGCS of the Prefecture, due to the horrific situations arising out of the COVID-19 quarantine.

Le Gym, who has been involved in promoting the blood drives organised by the Établissement Français du Sang (EFS) for many years, has also been communicating the details of upcoming blood drives each Sunday. The number of patients needing blood transfusions remains the same, so there is a real need for people to continue to give blood.

Finally, the youngsters from the Mèfi Club sent videos of support to all of the heroes in the daily battle against the Coronavirus.
