In securing victory over Fréjus Saint-Raphaël (N2) at the Allianz Riviera (2-0), OGC Nice avoided the trap of this first fixture of the calendar year. For the first time since 2014, Les Aiglons will finally see their Coupe de France campaign extend beyond the Round of 64. The draw will follow on Monday evening.

With a numerical advantage from the 25th minute of the game, Le Gym had to wait another 30 before they were able to take the lead, in the shape of Boudaoui and his head following a Cyprien corner (55’, 1-0).

Before that, the Nice efforts were not enough, the best of them being powerful strikes from distance from Cyprien, a Lees-Melou special that hit the post (40’) and not forgetting a slalom run from Ounas, which he concluded with a shot that crept just wide (22’).

Just a few minutes later, Fachan chopped down Myziane rather dangerously. Too dangerous for Mr Rainville who sent him off for an early bath (25’). The task at hand was going to be that bit more complicated for Les Varois, who until then had played well and shown excellent commitment. That was until the opening goal blocked the visitor’s route to the next round.

Les Aiglons kicked on and found the back of the net for a second time when Ounas was played in behind during added time (2-0). They had used the same tactic on several occasions during the match, but without success.

Despite a smart flick from Dolberg and further efforts from Cyprien, Ounas and Danilo, it was only the woodwork that was troubled once again. This time, from a free-kick taken by Durmisi, whose teammates had gifted him the opportunity on his debut for the club (68’).
