Interview

Ganago, his week in Divonne

As Les Aiglons made their way back to the Comté de Nice, Ignatius Ganago, the only goalscorer against Thoune (1-3, defeat), stopped to briefly discuss the trip that had just come to an end.

Before anything else, how would you explain this defeat against the Swiss side?

It was a bit of a complicated match. They started their pre-season before us (in mid-June, Editor’s note), where as we came back on 1 July. We were able to set out our style, but it was difficult physically.

What would be your overall feeling about these days in Divonne-les-Bains?

It was a good trip and we have worked really hard. There is another one coming up in  England (from 27 July to 3 August, Editor’s note) where we will double our efforts in order to achieve better results in the coming matches.

“I tried it instinctively”

Could you describe your goal against FC Thoune?

I controlled and struck very quickly: control with the right foot and shot with the left. It’s good but I could have brought more during this friendly.

This strike almost reminds us of a goal against Paris Saint-Germain (Week 35, 2018-19 season)...

(Laughs) I am a striker, I tried it instinctively and it paid off which is great!

“The coach is counting on me”

Have you noticed that you are creating a place for yourself in the squad?

Yes, it’s true. The coach is counting on me and I expect even more of myself. I may not have been at the top of my form on Saturday, but I will continue to work.

Ibra' Cissé has been with the first team since the start of pre-season. The supporters don’t necessarily know him yet, could you tell us more about him?

He is a very good person. He is open, smiley and nosy. When he doesn’t know something, he asks my advice. I try to help him and to make him comfortable in the squad, because when I arrived, people helped me too, so it’s only right that I am there for him. It makes me proud. On the pitch, he is a player who has progressed a lot, physically and technically. He is confident and wants to work. I think he is a great member of the squad and to see him progress makes me very happy.
