Europe: Mathematically, it’s no longer possible

On Sunday, AS Saint-Etienne secured the three points at AS Monaco (2-3), provisionally pushing Les Verts into third place in the league, with 62 points (the same total as Olympique Lyonnais in fourth).

With three games to go until the end of the season, Les Aiglons (52 points) will not be able to secure the fourth placed finish in order to qualify for the Europa League. As a reminder, fifth and sixth places will not obtain a ticket for Europe, unlike last season, when PSG took home both national cups.

The season isn’t finished for Le Gym, however, as they sit just two points behind last season’s points tally (54 points). After a game against an in-form Nantes side (five wins in their last five outings), Patrick Vieira’s side will travel to St Etienne, who are in a battle for the final Champions League place. All this, before a final clash against AS Monaco, who currently have just a three point lead on Caen in 18th place.

Les Aiglons’ schedule:

  • Week 36: Nice - Nantes (Saturday 11 May, 8pm)
  • Week 37: Saint-Etienne - Nice (Saturday 18 May, 9pm)
  • Week 38: Nice - Monaco (Saturday 25 May).
