Dante, 100 games on

At 35 years old, Dante seems younger and  fresher than ever. Patrick Vieira’s most used member of the squad (1966 minutes played in L1) and his captain, who extended his contract with the Gym this autumn, played his 100th game in Ligue 1 against Nîmes on Saturday (2-0). Here’s a look back at his impressive century.

"100 matches in L1 is always important,  especially as it is my 88th game here in Nice after just two and a half years. It means that I am doing well physically, that I am healthy. It’s great, these are very important stats for me. I really hope that I will be able to achieve other landmarks like this.”

It’s a strong sign and the captain knows it. A win for the Gym and a solid performance -has Dante will remember this special match, given that he never forgets the key matches that he has played in. Take for example his debut for the Aiglons, against Marseille in September 2016 (3-2): “How time flies.... I can still remember my debut against OM, there was an incredible atmosphere. It’s unforgettable, with the reward of a victory to go with it.”

Against Nîmes, the Brazilian was in excellent form, with 102 touches of the ball, the same number as Youcef Atal.

Accurate, the central defender had a pass completion rate of 95.5%, the best rate of the match. And strong, given that he won 71% of his duels.

When speaking to beIN SPORTS at the end of the match, Dante delighted in the spirit and style of his side: “It’s a great celebration, I am very happy about my 100th game! The most important thing remains the team and this victory in style. This evening, the spirit was there, we succeeded in being very compact and playing on the front foot by creating chances.”
