Home is where the heart is

Last Saturday against Red Star, Les Aiglons began a series of four consecutive home matches… for just the second time in the club’s history…

Four in a row. At Allianz Riviera, in the middle of winter, in the knowledge that what happens now will affect the rest of the season. The men from Nice overcame Red Star in Act I of IV. It wasn’t easy, but it was a winning start, 2-1.

Now the series continues at home. This Friday, Dante and Co. play host to Stade Rennais (KO 20:45), a form team that sit a solid third on the Ligue 1 standings.

It’s a big test ahead of a week that will feature 100% Olympique Lyonnais. Lyon visit for the Coupe de France last-16 on Thursday 30 January (KO 20:55), and are back again the following Sunday, 2 February (KO 15:00) in the league.

Since the start of the season, OGC Nice boast the sixth-best home record in Ligue 1, with 20 points in ten matches. To that can be added two Coupe de France victories against Etoile Fréjus-Saint-Raphaël (2-0) and Red Star (2-1).

Les Aiglons have only ever played four consecutive official home matches once before in their history; it came at the Stade du Ray in the second division in the 1946-47 season.

The four matches in question:

→ (Wk.14) 06/10/46 OGCN / Lyon Olympique Universitaire 0-1
→ (Wk.10) 13/10/46 OGCN / Football Club Sochaux-Montbéliard 2-2
→ (Wk.11) 20/10/46 OGCN / Sporting Club de Toulon 1-5
→ (Wk.13) 03/11/46 OGCN / Association Sportive Biterroise 4-1

The Week 14 clash was brought forward because the respective opponents of Nice and Lyon (Brive and Vichy) had withdrawn from the championship. Nice had ‘byes’ in Weeks 9 and 12.
