In his press conference, Lucien Favre was disappointed with the early goal in the second-half, and especially the haste with which his team tried to get back into the game, leading to their defeat.

Coach, do you feel that Nice missed their opportunity in the first-half?
​No, the 0-0 at the break was the right score. They had a big chance from 12 metres after we gave the ball away. We tried to play well, to pass it about and to use the wings, but we didn’t have enough to break through.

The goal just after half-time hurt your side… 
We conceded a totally avoidable goal. It came too quickly. We reacted well after that but we forgot at times that we needed to get back into the game, but at the same time to also defend, we left them too much space! The second goal was also avoidable. At 0-2 against Monaco, it’s difficult. We needed to be more patient at 0-1. I would have preferred if we hadn’t put everything on the line like we did, because in the game we could have unsettled them.

You said that the goals were avoidable, how exactly?
Surely you saw the same things that I did. The covering, the marking etc. That is the way it is.

The Gym started the game well…
We weren’t bad yes. Even in the second-half, we moved well, but these goals are difficult to take. We conceded two similar goals, from crosses coming from out wide. With more concentration and patience, we could have got something from the game.

What do you think about this Monaco side, who have just scored their 100th goal of the season ? 
They run a lot, they press, they cover well. They are very compact, the attackers track back, the midfielders manage to push out quickly.  We prepared ourselves to get around this, but their athletic and physical levels caused us problems. They are very strong, they finished top of a good group in the Champions League.  Falcao? He works a lot for his side, tactically, he makes the right runs and he is the first line of defence for his team. In front of goal, he prepares himself quickly to shoot. Honestly, I am shocked to see him find this level again.

The score 3-0 seems harsh. Do you fear that your side will react badly psychologically?  
We will see in the next games. Monaco conceded four at the Allianz and bounced back straight away. We lost 3-0, that’s the way it is and we can’t change that. We need to move on and concentrate of the next match against St Etienne.
