Plea racking up the goals
Like a fox, Alassane Plea scored his tenth goal of the Ligue 1 season, in the top-of-the-table Ligue 1 clash at the Parc des Princes against Paris on Sunday night (2-2). That's the highest goal tally for an Aiglon after 17 rounds since the club's return to the elite in 2002-2003…
Faced with the reigning four-time Ligue 1 champions, he didn't have all that much to work with (35 balls played), but Plea made a feast of the scraps he was given (70% pass success rate). In the thankless role of spearhead (two fouls committed, two suffered), in which his main task was to stymie the opponents' playing out of defence, he lifted his already high standards on a night whose European flavour was tailor-made for the Lyon youth academy graduate. A constant thorn in the side of Paris' Brazilian central defensive pairing, Plea was a solid and powerful target man. A physical centre-forward with a deft touch and a knack for making dangerous runs. Stellar.
He also managed to convert his only chance of the evening with guile but also efficiency. Latching onto Dalbert's long pass, he picked his moment, allowing the two opposition defenders to get in each other's way before pouncing on the ball and firing home.
This strike - his 11th in all competitions - was the perfect reward for the heart and the smarts he showed, taking his goal tally to heights not seen for an Aiglon since their return to France top flight…
