Farioli: "A good point"

Francesco Farioli spoke to the press after OGC Nice's 0-0 draw at Reims.

Did you see the expected response from your team today?

Yes, the match reflected a very good week's work. The 0-0 result is incredible given the number of chances and the quality of the chances. In the first half, we should have finished at least 2-0 up. I'm sorry that once again we have to talk about a quality performance without getting the points we deserved. It's been like that for a while and it's a shame. We managed to overcome the difficulties we encountered last Sunday. That's a good point. Now we're going to get going again and prepare for the series of matches that starts with Lorient.

What do you make of Jeremie Boga's chance to score before half-time?

I can't explain it. It was a pretty big mistake, but it wasn't the only one in the game. In the second half as well, when you hit five or six shots inside the six-yard box, it's difficult to do more offensively. It's a problem we've had since the start of the season. After that, the figures are no excuse, but they do help us to assess things objectively. Out of 54 international championships, we're the second team with the lowest conversion rate in terms of chances created. We're going to have to keep up the quality of our performances, stay clear-headed and prepare for these six matches, which will be six finals and will determine the final league standings. There's no point dwelling on the past, we have to look ahead.

Did your starting choices reflect a good week's work? You could also bank on that reaction of collective confidence after the Nantes match…

In reality, there were three or four extra players who deserved to start the match because everyone had had a really good week. The line-up we put together was based on the type of match we were going to play. We knew how good Reims were, and we also knew that they were going to concede in open situations, so we had the option of playing vertically and that would put our attacking players in an advantageous position, and that's what happened. Today, there were 14 or 15 players who could have started. Sometimes it's difficult to make choices, but that's fine and I hope we'll have a few more headaches between now and the end of the season. We didn't have this wealth of choice available to us in previous weeks. Next week, we'll welcome back Youssouf Ndayishimiye and Morgan Sanson, who are also at 100%. As far as Morgan is concerned, we preferred to take 0 risks today and keep him in the squad. We'll finally have our full squad for the next match after eleven games. We'll have no more excuses to get to the end of this championship as well as we can.

The return of Pablo Rosario seemed to be important for the balance of the team…

Yes, we know the kind of player he is, his value, his character... Today, as always, he was a lion on the pitch. He collected a lot of balls, he filtered through, he played in the right positions with good quality on the ball. The return of Khephren Thuram also helped. As I said, no team in the world would be able to play without five or six regulars from the main group of players. We've had a lot of problems recently, and again that's no excuse, but it happens. Having those players available, or not, changes the game.

How are you going to organise the next fortnight without a match?

Tomorrow is training day. Then Tuesday will be a day off. Then we'll have a normal week. At the end of the week, we'll have a match between the 20 players. We're going to try to maintain a typical week. This break will help us measure out our efforts, in particular to give Youssouf Ndayishimiye and Morgan Sanson time to recover. And we're going to prepare as well as we can for the Lorient match with the whole squad.
