Nice 2-1 Strasbourg
Two in a row for Le Gym
This Sunday, OGC Nice beat RC Strasbourg on Matchday 6 of Ligue 1. A game that the Aiglons won in style.
After a three week break, OGC Nice returned to Ligue 1 action against Strasbourg. And just like against LOSC (2–1 on 20 September), the Aiglons quickly showed their attacking intent with their front-foot style and relentless defensive work whenever they lost possession. Le Gym even thought they’d opened the scoring after Jonathan Clauss found Mohammed Amoura at the far post. But the Algerian international was correctly called offside (3'). The first real scare came shortly afterwards courtesy of the always dangerous Elye Wahi. Perfectly set up by Nkounkou at the near post, the striker managed to get a toe to the ball, forcing Filip Jörgensen into a reflex save (15').

But after that promising first quarter of an hour, Le Gym took their foot off the gas and allowed Strasbourg, who were only too happy to capitalise, more possession. Conrad Harder fired off an effort that was parried by Yehvann Diouf (11'). Then Samuel Amo-Ameyaw caused havoc twice in the Nice penalty area without managing to find the net (19', 28'). The Nice defence, which had been solid up to that point, eventually conceded when a perfectly placed shot from the edge of the box by Dario Essugo found the bottom corner (0–1, 41').

After falling behind, Le Gym reacted quickly. Following a moment of brilliance from Hicham Boudaoui, Jonathan Clauss, inside the box, lost his duel with the Strasbourg captain (45'). The equaliser finally came in added time of the first half. Gauthier Hein sent in a cross which the unfortunate Pape Diop deflected into his own net (1–1, 45’+2).
JONATHAN CLAUSS’S MISSILE
Just as they had at the start of the game, Nice came back from the break looking dangerous right from the off thanks to some nice team moves. Gauthier Hein found Axel Witsel in the box. The Nice captain rose higher than everyone else to meet the ball with a header that was straight at Jörgensen (51').

Les Aiglons continued to press and created a triple chance following a cross from Boudaoui into the box. But Mohammed Amoura twice, and then Jonathan Clauss, were unable to find the net (53'). Clauss became the provider moments later, finding Elye Wahi inside the six-yard box, but his shot went wide (59').
Unlike in the first half, the Aiglons remained alert and didn't give their opponents any space in attack. In fact, they didn't even give them a point. Because after some excellent work from Sofiane Diop, Jonathan Clauss fired a rocket under the bar, sending the Allianz Riviera into raptures (2–1, 81').
Le Gym held on to their lead to secure a second consecutive victory, allowing them to climb into the top half of the table with eight points to their name.
