Patrick Vieira ambassador for the INEOS 1:59 Challenge

#NoHumanIsLimited*: This is the message of the INEOS 1:59 Challenge. On 12 October in Vienna, Eliud Kipchoge will attempt to beat that legendary challenge of completing a marathon in less than two hours. A feat that has never been achieved, and above and beyond the sporting performance required, it demands a level of inspiration to surpass yourself and the limits one imposes on oneself.

To support this project, INEOS has chosen prestigious ambassadors. Le Gym’s coach, winner of the World Cup in 1998 and the European Championships in 2000, Patrick Vieira is one of them and features alongside Chris Froome (four times winner of the Tour de France), Abdi Nageeye (four times European Marathon Champion) and Hermann Maier (Olympic and World Skiing Champion).

In the same way as the coach, the whole of the OGC Nice family are fully behind this immense challenge.

Kipchoge, the chosen one

In order to break this incredible record and to explore places where humans have never been before, INEOS is looking to Eliud Kipchoge. At 34 ans, and having already beaten the the giants of his field (El Guerrouj and Bekele) at the start of his career, the Kenyan became the greatest marathon runner of all time, winning gold at the Olympics in Rio in 2016.

World record holder over the distance (in 2 hours 01 mins 39 secs), he feels ready to beat the challenge, which will take place on 12 October in the streets of Vienna in Austria. A challenge that can be followed live on Youtube.
