Vieira: “We have taken it to the next level mentally”

In his press conference, Aiglons coach Patrick Vieira delighted in the spirit shown by his side, who, when needed, doubled their efforts to go out and get a first home victory of the season.

Patrick, it’s a great victory and a great reaction from your side!

I liked the attitude of the players. I liked the fact that we continued to play, despite trailing in the game. I like the spirit that was shown by the team. We were rewarded for our efforts. In the end, we scored those two goals that we deserved.

The scenario is almost the exact opposite of the one against Dijon where you collapsed after conceding…

We continued in the same light as we had did against Lyon. We have taken it to the next level mentally. Today, it was against a very good team that was very well organised. To concede a goal with the quick players that they have up-front, it’s tough, but we kept our discipline and continued to play. The quality of the players allowed us to score.

Youcef Atal made an impressive entrance!

He is an important player for us. In attack, he adds something different.

Allan Saint-Maximin scored for the second consecutive match and played a full game…

He is working much better in training and that can be seen in the games. There is more continuity in his games, he is able to play the full 90 minutes. He has lots of things to improve on. He has real potential, but that’s not enough. He needs to be more decisive with is talent. But he is on the right path.

Over the past two years, Nice haven’t won many without Balotelli either…

He is an important player but we needed to continue to play, even without him. Of course we are better when he is there. But this evening, Myziane and Allan worked hard for the team. Allan was rewarded, Myziane unfortunately not, but I am pleased with the content of his performance.

Can we say that your season has finally got going?

I didn’t doubt it. I didn’t yell ‘disaster’ after Dijon, but I am not euphoric this evening either. We need to continue to work, whilst keeping our philosophy. I have confidence in this squad.
