School competition
The future is assured
During the month of May, break time in Nice became even more noisy, thanks to a competition amongst schools which has brought to life their passion.
That morning, you slid on your best jersey and put on your best scarf in spite of the heat of spring. Then you made your way to school, whilst singing your favourite chants on the way there. Your teachers must have realised it: you have never wanted to arrive so quickly.
In front of the gate, you met up with your classmates, who have never resembled you as much as that. The word had clearly been spread: today, school will be red and black. Then you got together, to sing, shout, jump in a tribute to the Gym’s success.
École du Col de Villefranche on the podium
We received numerous photos and videos showing off these moments filled with passion. Even though it wasn’t easy to decide between you, so much you had all impressed us, a podium had to be established.
On the third step of the podium, we find the École du Col de Villefranche, who offered us an incredible interpretation of the breathtaking view from above the capital of the Côte d’Azur, which this school benefits from every day.
Madeleine Supérieure Vice-Champion
The award of Vice-Champion in this competition goes to the pupils of the Madeleine Supérieure, who were so impressive with their choreography in traditional costumes to the tune of “Nissa la Bella”.
École Pierre Merle, first place
Finally, it is the École Pierre Merle who wins the first edition of the schools competition organised by OGC Nice and the City of Nice. Directed by an incredible “capo”, in one voice they all sang the famous songs that ring out in the Pop' Sud, without even a note out of tune. They concluded their video with a vibrant cover of the Nice hymn.
To you, all of the young Red and Black schoolchildren, to your parents and your teachers, OGC Nice would like to offer you a huge congratulations. Your enthusiasm impressed us but didn’t surprise us: and with you, the future is in safe hands.
The pupils rewarded
Thanks to their performances, the pupils of the École Pierre Merle will be honoured at the Allianz Riviera during the first match of the 2017/18 season “after the schools go back”. Gaining free entry to the match, they will see their clip shown on the big screens and will also receive a great surprise.
The participating students from Madeleine Supérieure and Col de Villefranche will also attend the game, and will be invited to attend a first team training session to watch from the training pitch.
The reactions:
École Pierre Merle (1st): “What a surprise to see all these “mini- supporters” turn out in the “Gym”colours. So proud to wear their scarves, tee-shirts, flags, the shirts of the players they so often imitate on the playground (…). 320 pupils together in the playground, committed to jump and sing. That for sure, shocked the neighbours! The announcement was met by collective jubilation. It was a huge moment of joy and pride.”
École de la Madeleine Supérieure (2nd): “To convince students and parents was simply a formality. Football is present in the families with young supporters going to the stadium to cheer on the Gym, just as their 2 teachers do (Agnès Fanciotto and Stéphanie Guillaumot). All of the families played the game and dressed their child in red and black; brought their scarves, flags, blew up balloons; decorated our school under the professional eye of our caretaker Dominique, and Séverine. We are delighted that our film has been rewarded and we can’t wait to follow the Gym next season.”
École du Col de Villefranche (3rd): “The kids already know Nissa la Bella which they learned in music class, as well as the Clapping and Mounta Cala which most of them had already heard at the stadium. Putting in place the acronym of "OGC Nice" with the pupils spread out on the floor was more complicated, and we prepared it in class before to work out the position of each person. The whole class was delighted to participate in this competition!”
