LOOKING BACK: 16/17

May 2017: Thank you for everything

As the capital of the Côte d'Azur became filled with red and black to celebrate their heroes and with Paris still in sight, the Red and Blacks travelled to Marseille for the derby. "The best match at the best moment", for Yoan Cardinale and his teammates to face without pressure and with huge determination. In a piping hot Vélodrome, the Aiglons conceded the opening goal, before equalising through Super Mario and then falling behind once more in the second-half (1-2). The dice were definitively thrown. The Gym wouldn't be able to overtake Paris and would spend the summer with a bronze medal around their necks.

Weakened by a series of absences, Lucien Favre's side suffered their first defeat of the season at the Allianz in L1, during their final outing at home against Angers (0-2). A defeat which couldn't dampen the spirits of the home fans and didn't spoil the final party. Nice finished the season in Lyon, where a brace from Tassos Donis and a penalty in the last minute for Mika Seri allowed the Aiglons to take home a point (3-3). A deserved ending for a squad who will leave their imprint on the history of the club.

Aiglon of the Month

Author of a great second part of the season and on-fire for the final match, Tassos Donis is the last winner of the Aiglon of the Month trophy. Quick, technical, the Greek grew into his role in the final weeks. And even though it was to be the final game of the season that would be undoubtedly 'his match', his final tally proved honourable nonetheless: 5 goals and 1 assist in 455 minutes played (split between 18 appearances, of which 3 were starts). At just 20 years old and with a future ahead of him.

The strong moment
