Looking back: 2016/17

September 2016: At the centre of attention

Claps of thunder, claps of genius. In the final moments of the summer transfer window, the Gym sign Mario Balotelli and Younes Belhanda. Two huge players, two characters, two bosses.

Faced with the arrival of the Italian phenomenon, France and Europe ask themselves: Super Mario will he  bring something straight away. A brace against Marseille (3-2) and another against Monaco (4-0) launched “ the Machine”. In the league, the Gym were walking on water,  Marseille, Monaco and Nancy, all whilst bringing home a point from Montpellier, thanks to… Younes Belhanda, his wink and his right foot.

The Niçois smiled and got used to the dizzy heights. They were surprised and enjoyed themselves. The only negative of the situation concerned Europe, given that the start in Europe was complicated. Schalke and Krasnodar end the European hopes, but can’t affect Lucien Favre’s side in France. Trailing behind them was an intoxicating electricity.

The Aiglon of the Month

Showmen always take care of their entrance: Super Mario didn’t disappoint in this regard. Rumoured to be “a bit short physically”, the Italian quickly proved that he had lost none of his quality. With two braces in two derbies – added to the bonus celebrations “arms crossed” and “reverence - Balotelli logically was awarded the title of Aiglon of the Month on behalf of the supporters. At the same time as embracing L1 from the very get go….

The strong moment
