2017/18

Europe will begin in July

The dream scenario for OGC Nice didn’t come true. A victory for Ajax would have allowed the Aiglons to “skip” a qualification round this summer and qualify directly for the play-offs of the Champions League. But there was to be no miracle in Stockholm. Better in the game, the Dutch side were bogged down by the Mancunian block and struggled against United’s efficiency in the final of the Europa League on Wednesday evening (0-2, goals from Pogba and Mkhitaryan).

Third in L1, the Gym will fight it out in the third qualifying round of the most prestigious club competition at the end of July and will therefore retake to the training pitches on the 19 June. They will find out the identity of their opponent on 14 July during the draw. With a two-legged game planned before the kick-off of the Ligue 1 season.

If they come out of the games victorious, the Red and Blacks will entertain the fans at the Allianz Riviera in mid-August in the play-off stages (equally home and away legs). If they fail to win, they will fight it out for a place in the group stages of the Europa League.

In any case, the Nice fans are assured of seeing at lest four European evenings this summer, including two at home. Season ticket holders will benefit from a special tarif (-15%) on theses games.

What awaits for the Aiglons

To reach the group stages of the Champions League in September, the Aiglons will need “to get through” two rounds. The “Q3” (or third qualifying round) and then the play-offs.

If the Gym are eliminated in Q3, they will battle it out in the play-offs of the Europa League. In case of victory in Q3 but elimination in the play-offs of the Champions League, they will drop down into the group stages of the Europa League.
