Interview

Favre: "Playing is the most important thing"

Coach, how do you analyse this win?
We controlled the first half well. The second in spells only. We lost the ball too often, and our opponents put more intensity into their pressing. We needed to play more quickly. Instead of that, we brought the ball out badly sometimes, at other times we lost it too easily. But that's normal. When you lead 2-1 away from home, it's normal your opponent tries to react.

You again got back level without panicking...
That's the least that can be said. I got the impression we equalised 30 seconds afterwards. Perhaps we need to concede a goal every game? But the goal we conceded was really one we could have avoided, like the corner that led to it. We're going to put that right.

How do you explain that ability to equalise?
Because we play! Playing is the most important thing for us. We know we have the ability to get back into things.

Mario Balotelli put in one of his best performances. Two goals and a lot of work for the team….
His first goal came from a well-worked counter-attack. He took it first-time, which caught out the goalkeeper. It was important to react quickly, even if we would have stayed calm had we not done so. The goal to make it 2-1 was the result of great teamwork. His commitment? He did it, for the team but also for himself. He still has a lot of work to do in the precision of his pressing, but he tracks back, which is vital for a team at the highest level. In training, he puts in more effort, it's positive.

At times, we saw the same Nice as we had seen in the early part of the season!
We changed the system after the match against Caen with a 4-2-3-1, it takes some time to adapt. We'll perhaps return to 4-3-3 for the next game with the return of Rémi [Walter], I don't know yet.

You have 70 points after 32 games, which is incredible, isn't it?
Yes, this year points are needed…It wasn't easy to win here. They lost 3-2 against Bordeaux when they had been leading 2-1, and they have been better in the last 7-8 matches. We have to keep going without any let-up. There are 6-7 weeks of competition left. Each day in training we can make progress and enjoy it.
