Favre: 'This match made us grow'

In his press conference, Lucien Favre expressed disappointment that Les Aiglons had drawn at the Parc des Princes, but added that it was nonetheless a positive result, especially given the pressure that Paris piled on throughout the match.

Lucien, what's your feeling after this draw?
We're a bit disappointed insofar as we were 2-0 up at half-time and on our way to a win. But we need to put this disappointment into perspective and stay positive. It was very tough for us in the beginning of the match, right up until our free-kick, which gave the team a lot of confidence. And then we scored a second just before half-time. We wanted to score a third after the break, but unfortunately we conceded the goal for 2-1 almost right away, which got Pairs right back into the match. The positive is that, despite these two goals that we conceded for too quickly, we held on at 2-2. We're a bit disappointed but still, we got a point in Paris! When they scored twice in the first 15 minutes of the second half, we knew it was going to be really tough, but the lads stuck together and held out.

The infuriating thing is that both goals you conceded came from gaffes…
People make mistakes. What's done is done. Now we need to look ahead. We should have taken Dalbert off at half-time, that was a mistake. There is some regret, stemming from how easily Paris scored their two goals.

At the beginning of the match, were you expecting Paris to put so much pressure on?
It was very tough. I quickly said to myself that the lads needed to hold out until half-time so I could make a few corrections, but then suddenly we were playing well out of defence. It had been a while since the team had played in a 3-5-2 and we weren't completely comfortable. Their full-backs posed us a lot of problems. But given the absences in our squad, I didn't have much choice.

You have beaten Monaco and Lyon and you got a draw at the Parc. Les Aiglons are no longer underdogs...
You know, my job as coach is to analyse matches one after the other and assess their content. When you look at those matches you mentioned, you can see that the opponents had chances and that the result could sometimes have gone either way. We have to keep things in perspective. There is still a lot of work to do in terms of anticipation. If you watch matches from the 70 or 80s, you'll be shocked. Football is being played faster and faster. You have to have more rhythm.

Do you think this kind of match makes your team grow as players?
For sure. Dalbert, Boscagli, Cardi, Sarr, Koziello, Cyprien and even Plea are all young players. This kind of match makes you grow. It gives you confidence to get a result here, faced with a huge team in front of 45,000 spectators.
