Coupe de France

Coun ‘is back’ with poster for the final

Rouge et Noir fans have become accustomed to his brushwork, his slick sayings, his talent and the happiness he conveys through his art. Remember: the club called on him to decorate the city, the trams and everything else in 2022, at the time of the Coupe de France final against Nantes, which was as sublime in its lead-up as it was cruel in its outcome.

The man who later accompanied OGC Nice's 120th anniversary celebrations, sketched Mèfi and designed the Mèfi Club banner, used to delight Le Gym's fans along with with Bruno and the QVLD team, illustrating the fanzine with taste and distinction.

So as soon as Les Rouge et Noir eliminated Strasbourg to book their place in the Coupe de France final against Lens, the club invited Coun to take up his pencils again, with 22 May in mind. And his pencils still have a habit of speaking beautifully. The result of his work can be seen on the back of today's Nice-Matin, and will soon be blooming all over town: a poster celebrating the history of OGC Nice and the huge challenge that lies ahead. "Four years ago, we went up to Paris. This time, I wanted to do the entrance to the Stade de France, with something new and a lot of reminders," explained the artist."

He then gave a run-down of his 2026 poster: "There's a tribute to the victims of the attack on 14 July 2016. The athletics track incorporates Le gym's colours and there's the arrival of a crowned Mèfi in the centre with the laurels of our beautiful city. And below, the pitch, then tributes to Pop', for the 40th anniversary, to the CDS, to the club, the ‘Nissa’ of the goals, the canon of victory... On the left-hand side, ‘lou pastre’ (the Shepherd, editor's note) Paul Capietto. The idea is to make links between everything each time. There has to be something new and something to be reminded of."

A driving idea perfectly symbolised by the top of the poster: "A tribute to the magnificent banner from the final against Nancy 20 years ago, “Nissa”, with “Avanti” added above in the same style."
