86th minute
"Unacceptable"
History will remember when a Ligue 1 match was stopped by a referee after the crowd chanted abusive remarks about a terrorist organisation that plunged a French city into mourning. "It's unacceptable. It shows a lack of respect for the victims of 14 July, their families, and the entire city of Nice. Not just OGC Nice," said Fabrice Bocquet. “We found this moment extremely difficult to take".
"This interruption of the game, like the ultimatum given to our announcer to take the microphone and call for an end to the demonstration or else the match would not resume, should never have happened," continued the president of Le Gym, who went to meet with Jérôme Brisard and the match delegate. "The referee told me he was not aware of the situation and wanted to follow the instructions he had been given."
While the 86th minute (referring to the number of victims, editor's note) has been made sacred at the Allianz Riviera since the attack, with a heart formed from the names of those who died displayed on the stadium screens at every match, and the Nice crowd making their presence felt loudly and visually with thousands of flashes from all corners of the stadium, the referees' reaction deeply affected the crowd.
"It was a lack of preparation and sensitivity, and it should never have happened, as the delegate agreed. The referee has apologised. This week, we will take the necessary steps with the FFF, Philippe Diallo and Anthony Gautier (director of refereeing) to ensure that this never happens again."
