Boga, the X factor in Le Gym's attack

With six goals and six assists, Jeremie Boga was the most decisive Aiglon in 2023-2024 behind Terem Moffi. Take a look back at the decisive moments from the Côte d'Ivoire international, who was crowned Aiglon of the Match for Lille-Nice, with 42% of the vote (ahead of Tom Louchet, 19%, and Gaëtan Laborde, 12%).

After arriving on the Côte d'Azur in the summer of 2023, 'Jerry' has not failed to integrate with the Aiglons. Speed, alertness, technical quality... the former Atalanta striker has delighted Le Gym’s fans throughout the season. All the while proving decisive, both with goals and assists. With 11 goal involvements in 29 matches in all competitions, the African champion played a major role in Les Aiglons' campaign, which ended on Sunday in fifth place, despite his being absent for more than a month due to the African Cup of Nations.

(MOSTLY) LUCKY CHARM

When Jeremie Boga scores, OGC Nice win (almost) every time. Indeed, five of the six goals scored by the left-winger resulted in a Nice victory. Starting with his exceptional goal in the derby against AS Monaco (R6, 0-1). Starting on the halfway line, the No.7 made his way up the pitch, skinning a number of Monaco players before finishing strongly with a low drive that drove Nice fans to delirium in the 91st minute of a match that seemed destined for a 0-0 draw.

This perfect introduction was followed by two other less aesthetically pleasing but no less important goals to round off the 2023 calendar year. Against Rennes (R11, 2-0), Boga took advantage of a defensive mix-up to convert Moffi's cross into a goal. Against Reims (R15, 2-1), Le Gym's summer signing restored his side's lead moments after the Champagne club’s equaliser, firing a shot from the edge of the area that was poorly dealt with by the opposing keeper.

Having been called up for the African Cup of Nations at the start of 2024, 'Jerry' had to wait a few weeks to get back into the swing of things on his return to France - but he finished the season with a bang. His goal against Lorient (R30, 3-0), scored at the end of a fine counter-attack, made absolutely sure of a crucial victory in a tricky period in terms of results. Finally, the 27-year-old striker scored the decisive goal to send OGC Nice into the European League against Le Havre (R33, 1-0), leaving the Normandy keeper no chance from close range following a long throw from Antoine Mendy.

Boga's only goal that didn’t lead to a Nice win came against Montpellier (R25, 1-2). It was also the only headed goal scored by the attacking midfielder from Nice.

A HOST OF GIFTS

And when Boga isn't scoring, the Ivorian is teeing them up. A real menace to defenders with his extremely fast ball control, the diminutive 1.72m tall striker also made a name for himself with a series of solo runs down his left flank, such as the ones that saw him set up for Moffi against Lens (R17, 2-0) or this Sunday for Laborde on the final day of the season at Lille (R34, 2-2).

These actions demonstrate the selflessness of the striker, who does not hesitate to choose the collective solution even after having rounded several opponents - as he also demonstrated at home against Paris (R32, 1-2) by serving Mohamed-Ali Cho - but also at the Vélodrome. Although the league did not consider his slightly mistimed deflection for Moffi to be an assist, Boga did start the move that led to Nice's opener by accelerating down the middle.
