OGC Nice named as the fifth most eco-friendly club in Ligue 1

French daily sports newspaper L’Équipe has published a table of the most eco-friendly clubs in Ligue 1, as established by Sport Positive, an independent NGO. Thanks to its hard work as well as that of its partners, Le Gym has reached fifth place in the standings.

Whether it’s through a training and academy centre equipped with solar panels that make it self-sufficient in terms of hot water supply, partnerships with StadiumGO to prioritise carsharing and with Les Restos du Cœur to reduce food waste, or a stadium equipped with a natural ventilation system and solar panels and built with a structure made out of wooden slats, by working alongside multiple local stakeholders such as the City of Nice and the Allianz Riviera who support it every step of the way, OGC Nice is developing its environmental action.

That continuous work was rewarded on Wednesday with a spot in joint fifth alongside PSG in the table of the most environmentally-friendly clubs in Ligue 1. Having been set out by English NGO Sport Positive in collaboration with the LFP and published in L’Équipe, the table highlights the methods used by the 20 teams in the French top flight. “Ligue 1 possesses some of the most well-known brands in world football, and, with that in mind, we wanted to underline the environmental work carried out in order to make everyone – the governing bodies, the clubs and the fans – aware of it,” explained Claire Poole, the CEO and founder of Sport Positive. “All of the clubs worked directly with us to share information that we included in our matrix.
