Alassane Plea joins Mönchengladbach

OGC Nice and Borussia Mönchengladbach have agreed a deal for the transfer of Alassane Plea.

The 25 year old forward will now ply his trade in the Bundesliga, in the colours of Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he has decided to continue the next stage of his career. A decision that the Club has respected, given the impeccable manner that he has conducted himself in during his four seasons in red and black. For that reason, OGC Nice felt obliged to respect the wishes of the player, negotiating exclusively with the German club, whilst at the same time protecting its own interests.

“Lasso” was 21 years of age when he arrived in Nice, back in summer 2014, and he quickly settled into the Nice squad. Trained as a right midfielder, it’s a more advanced role that the man born in Lille made his own while wearing the red and black.

After a promising first season (33 matches, 3 goals, 7 assists), he continued in the same light the following season. Decisive in more than one game in every two (6 goals and 4 assists in 19 appearances), he was held back in his progress by a knee injury.

After 2 years with Claude Puel, the forward continued his development under the watchful eye of Lucien Favre. Often played out on the wing to accommodate Mario Balotelli through the middle, Plea scored 11 goals in 25 appearances, before being held back by another knee injury. A real workaholic, he came back even stronger in 2017-18, to cap off the best season of his career, with 21 goals in all competitions (4 assists).

Taking his place as a senior member of the dressing room, despite his age, Alassane Plea demonstrated his generosity both on and off the pitch. A supporter of the ‘Gym Solidaire’ movement, he even became the first Ligue 1 player to contribute 1% of his salary to charitable causes, participating in the launch of the OGC Nice Endowment Fund.

OGC Nice wish him the best for the rest of his career.
