October: The machine blocked

10 days after the end of the 2017-18 season and 70 days before the next campaign begins, OGCNICE.com offers you a chance to dive back, month by month, into the longest season in the Gym’s history.

After finally getting going in September, the Nice machine got caught during a month which saw the inauguration of the Aiglons’ new home.

The story

On 5 October, OGC Nice entered into a new dimension by moving into a new training complex. The whole of the club’s staff migrated 500 metres from Charles-Ehrmann, to a magnificent new functional home. One page closed and another one opened and bit by bit, new habits were formed across the Red and Black club.

On the pitch, the machine came to a halt. Just before the October international break, Dante and co. hosted OM, for Week 8 of L1. They played the first half an hour in dream land and were leading 2-0, but then collapsed in an inconceivable way. Marseille scored 4 times, Nice collapsed under the pressure (2-4). The 4 other games in the month also ended in defeat.

Aiglon of the Month

Incredible in September, Super Mario had a quieter month in October. Implicated in the team’s performance, and even during a difficult period, he added two goals to his tally for 2017/2018. Headers against Marseille and Lazio took his total to 9 (in all competitions) heading into the last two months of the year. Solid in the storm.

The extra information

October marked a new era for OGC Nice. In fact, as the Aiglons moved into their new training complex, a new stage was completed at the Stade du Ray, with the demolition of the Presidential Stand.

In unison, the supporters expressed their emotions on social media. A declaration of love that Super Mario joined: the idol of the Allianz Riviera admitted on his Instagram that he would have “loved to have played” at the Ray.
