Seri, a midfielder breaking the norm

"Only Angel Di Maria has more assists (31) than Mika Seri (20) in Ligue 1 since the Ivorian arrived in 2015/16." His gift, offered Alassane Plea a chance at the Roudourou, and put him into an irregular sphere: the most proficient passers in the top flight. A sphere that isn't frequented by midfielders…

The story began at Bastia, on the evening of a derby. An era not that long ago when he picked up the ball from Mathieu Bodmer, turned on himself, lifted his head and crossed to Valère Germain, who converted into the back of the net. Since 19 September 2015, when he arrived in L1, Le Gym's number 6 hasn't stopped. Custodian of the game, he continued his strides forward with light feet. Aerial.

Two and a half seasons later and his consistency in supplying the goods makes the midfielder the most generous in the top flight. Only Angel Di Maria, who will be at the Allianz Riviera on Sunday, has provided more goals for his teammates (31 assists). The two other players to have picked up 20 assists in the same period are Thomas Lemar and Ryad Boudebouz (in just 2 seasons for the latter). Florian Thauvin comes just after (18 assists). All of them play a bit higher than the man from Grand-Béréby, even though he has already played at number 10 during his career in red and black.

In Brittany, the Ivorian provided his 20th assist in L1*, once again using the long game. And the victory, like at the Armand-Cesari, finally rewards a good team performance. At the origin of the first and last Nice goal on Sunday, Seri could have further increased his stats, had Alassane Plea not struck the post in the first half.

It's worth noting that since he arrived, the Ivorian international has also scored 11 goals...

*7 for Alassane Plea; 3 for Valère Germain; 2 for Mario Balotelli, Valentin Eysseric and Hatem Ben Arfa; 1 for Malang Sarr, Younes Belhanda, Paul Baysse and Alex Mendy.
