Aiglon of the Month

Mario, of course

Mario Balotelli retains his title of Crédit Agricole Aiglon of the Month. Superb in September, the Italian (63 % of the vote) continued in the same light, and also takes home the trophy for October, ahead of Allan St-Maximin.

His last individual honour had been placed under a spotlight. Success and magical moves. In October, the award was somewhat less clear. The Gym was lacking a win (5 defeats in 5 games), was lacking points, it seemed difficult on paper, to put down names of a forward player onto the list for Aiglon of the Month. The man from Brescia, named man of the match against Marseille, Montpellier, (Lazio) and Paris, still made an impact, proving that a lighthouse, especially in stormy times can prove to be a solid focus point.

In October, Super Mario stood out through his consistency. Through his capacity to repeat quality performances, despite collective difficulties. Of course, his stats table don’t prove to be the most impressive over the month. Two goals, against Marseille and Lazio, topped up his tally (6 goals in L1, 2 in the Europa League and 1 in Q3 of the Champions League this season), but he directed the squad and warmed up the engines.

Every time, it was a tiny grain of sand that caused the red and black machine to malfunction, causing it to stagnate in its game and to drop down the table. However, the number 9 showed strong form. Which has also been seen at the start of November, given that he scored the only goal against Dijon, from the penalty spot (1-0). Before, unfortunately, being harshly sent off after a clumsy tackle.

Injured at the Parc des Princes, Allan St-Maximin obtained 33% of the vote. Elected Aiglon of the Match against Strasbourg, the powerful winger showed himself, through his sprint which led to the penalty which was then converted by Pierre Lees-Melou against the Alsaciens.

Presentation of the trophy during Nice - Lyon

It’s a supporter, who will shortly be drawn from a hat amongst those who voted on our partner’s page, who will present the trophy to the Aiglon of October, Super Mario. The presentation is due to take place ahead of Nice - Lyon (Sunday 26 November at 3pm at the Allianz Riviera).
