The “incredible adventures” of Lees-Melou

3rd signing of the summer window, Pierre Lees-Melou has an interesting back story to his rise to fame.

To the right of the stage, Lucien Favre introduces his new player: “He already has Ligue 1 experience. He has shown all of his qualities with Dijon with a fair few goals (7), assists (3 assists) and lots of presence on the pitch. He runs a lot. He is ready straight away. He has already shown some great quality in training. And he is still young (24 years old).”

For his coach, Pierre Lees-Melou can play “in a 4-3-3, on the right of the middle three, or on the wing in a 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1.”

From non-league football to Europe in 2 years

With the Gym, the Langon born (Gironde) will prepare to battle it out in the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League (first leg on 25 or 26 July, 2nd leg on 1 or 2 August). Something he could never have imagined just 3 years ago. In fact, in 2015, “PLM” was still playing in non-league football with Lège-Cap-Ferret, before joining Dijon, in Ligue 2. “To become a pro, I never thought it would happen, he admits, with a huge smile. I was enjoying myself, but I thought that the step up was too high. Afterwards, when the opportunity presents itself, you don’t hesitate though and you go for it!”

“Ready to go through hell”

“He has been through some incredible adventures, continues Lucien Favre. It’s very interesting from a personal point of view. He has been able to take positives from them. That also shows a certain level of intelligence. It is always important to have players like that.”

So, today, the new number 7 is savouring the moment: “I am very happy to be here. I can’t wait to get going again and to start this new project. To play in Europe, it’s what dreams are made of. Nice, are a step above Dijon. I have come here to work. And I am ready to go through hell to do so.”
