Transfer window

Makengo, 1st recruit for 2017-18

As the summer transfer window opens, OGC Nice have the pleasure of confirming the signing of midfielder Jean-Victor Makengo (18 years old), from Caen.

Born in Etampes (Essonne) on 12 June 1998, Makengo boats 27 appearances in L1 with his former side, SM Caen. Small yet lively (1,77m, 73kg), powerful, technical, and capable of driving forward, the left-footed midfielder has promised great things each time he has taken to the pitch in the top-flight.

Used to being around the youth set-up, he was thrown in at the deep end by Patrice Garande at 17 years old, on 29 November 2015 (against Bordeaux), and was called up in May for the first time by the French youth side.

Attracted by the profile and the potential of a very flattered element, OGC Nice decided to invest in the future, remaining loyal to its policy of pushing talented youngsters through and its philosophy of concentrating on ability. A philosophy that made a difference to the choice of the young "box to box" midfielder.

"It's strange to leave Caen, because it's home, but I am really happy to join Nice, explained Makengo. The Gym were able to present me with the right project. That convinced me. Over and beyond the 3rd place finish last season, the side really plays some great stuff: it's technical, there's movement, they play on the front foot, I like that general philosophy. I have the image of a warm family club. A very good club in L1 who aspire to even more. The owners told me to come to take it up a notch. To see the other young players succeeding here really inspired me, I said to myself that it was definitely the right choice."
