Curbelo and Civelli among the top goalscoring defenders

The official Ligue 1 website has highlighted the French top-flight's most dangerous defenders, and two former Aiglons feature.

The first is Carlos Curbelo, who — with 40 goals — is among the top 10 most-prolific defenders in L1 history. The Uruguay-born France international played for only two European clubs: Nancy and Nice. He actually defeated Nice in the 1978 Coupe de France final with Nancy before moving to the Côte d'Azur in 1980, playing 300 games, netting 11 of his top-flight goals in the red-and-black shirt before leaving in 1988. He also scored 16 times in the second division, twice in the Coupe de France, once in the Coupe de la Ligue and he got another brace in the Summer Cup, taking his tally in all competitions for Nice to 32.

On occasion, Carlos would play up front, and did so with distinction during the  1982/83 season, even scoring a hat-trick on 14 May 1983 at Montceau.

The other is one for younger fans: Renato Civelli. Between 2009 and 2013, the imposing centre-back struck 20 top-flight goals, 13 with Nice (and three in the domestic cups) to place joint-fourth alongside Hilton, Cris and André Luiz among 21st century players.
