Nantes 1-2 Nice

The Gym roll on in Nantes!

Nice's good run of form continued with a fine 2-1 victory in Nantes for their Ligue 1 Uber Eats Round 31 clash on Sunday).

"Confidence is born from results and leads to more confidence." There's no better way to sum up OGC Nice's Sunday afternoon at the Stade de la Beaujoire. Despite being dominant for 75 minutes, and despite Kasper Dolberg's stellar display, Le Gym never managed to kill the match off. However, with the confidence of three wins and a draw leading up to this trip to the banks of the Loire, Adrian Ursea's squad was able to drop back and hold out in the last quarter of an hour, to pick up their fourth win in L1 since 26 February's trip to Rennes.

With Daniliuc on the right of the defence, Kamara on the left, the Todibo-Saliba pairing in the middle, Thuram in a holding midfield role, Claude-Maurice and Lees-Melou as box-to-box men and the Myziane-Dolberg-Gouiri trio up front, Les Rouge et Noir quickly put their stamp on the match. In the first half, they pounded the Nantes goal with 13 shots, eight of which were on target, and two goals from Kasper Dolberg, who had not scored in L1 since the defeat of Lille on 25 October.

The Danish international first converted a penalty earned by Thuram, who was in fine form and with an eye to attack (1-0, 11'). After effectively setting up the first goal, Khéphren did it again for the second. His powerful shot was parried by Lafont, but Dolberg was on hand to coolly follow up from a seemingly impossible angle to double the lead shortly before the half-hour mark (2-0, 29').

But after the break, Touré conceded an avoidable goal from a corner (2-1, 31'). The home side continued to attack, but failed to regain their two-goal cushion, despite Dolberg - who had five shots in 45 minutes - and Lees-Melou, who hit the post early in the second half.

Still in danger of a draw, the Côte d'Azur team had to retreat in the last quarter of an hour, but with a very good Benitez, they protected their lead with a rock-hard mentality and some tenacious defending. They are now back in the top half of the table, in 10th place, with 42 points!
