Gouiri opens up to onze mondial

The Gym’s top scorer this season (13 goals in all competitions) Amine Gouiri spoke in detail in an interview with Rafik Youcef in December for Onze Mondial issue number 338. He spoke about his childhood, his style of play, his ambitions: the 21 year old striker also spoke about his first season with OGC Nice.

Why did you decide to go to Nice? Especially after taking so long to leave OL…

First of all, I didn ‘t leave Lyon, I chose to go to OGC Nice, it’s different. A lot of people say that I left Lyon to get more game time but that’s not the case. I could have gone to another club long before. I had offers in both Ligue 2 and Ligue 1. But I didn’t want to move just for the sake of it, I wanted a challenge that enabled me to perform at my best and improve. When Nice’s project came about I saw straight away that it was perfect for me. That’s what made me want to go there. Signing for Nice was a decision I thought long and hard about and the club ticked all the boxes.

Did you know that you would perform so well in Ligue 1?

You never know but you do everything you can to make it happen. I gave my all for it to work out and worked really hard for it. I always believed in myself. I don’t want to sound arrogant at all it’s just that I knew that I had the potential to play at this level. I just needed to show it and I worked hard in training to get my chance.

What would you like to improve in your game?

My left foot and aerial game. If I can improve well in those two areas it will make me a better player.
