This Friday at Rennes (kick-off at 21:00 CET), the Gym start the final third of the league season. A final straight that will end in 3 months at Lyon, where the final league match of the 2020-2021 season will take place. In between those trips, Amine Gouiri and his teammates will play 10 L1 matches, alternating between facing candidates for European qualification and clubs attempting to secure their top division status. This is the schedule.

36 points up for grabs

Before the Ligue 1 Uber Eats table delivers its final verdict, there are still 36 points to played for by the majority of Ligue 1 clubs (4 clubs have a rearranged match to play: Nîmes - Lorient on Wednesday and Marseille - Rennes on March 10). Since the start of 2021, Nice have claimed only 7 points from 30 available (wins at Lens and against Angers, a draw against Metz, and defeats against Brest, Bordeaux, Saint-Etienne, Monaco, Paris, Marseille and Metz).

Which opponents?

There are two types of opponent in Nice's path. Some are battling for European qualification (Rennes, Marseille, Montpellier), while others are fighting for the title (Lille, Lyon), and others are indirectly or directly involved in the relegation battle (Nîmes, Lorient, Nantes, Reims, Dijon, Brest and Strasbourg).

6 away games, 6 home games

The fixture list is balanced, with as many home games as away games. 18th in the home form table, Gym need to do better at the Allianz Riviera, where the visitors will be Nîmes, Marseille, Reims, Montpellier, Brest and Strasbourg. With a much better placing in the away table (6th in Ligue 1 with 18 points), the Aiglons have tough matches to come: 3 trips to the west (Rennes, Lorient, Nantes), followed by a journey to Dijon, and then two perilous trips (to Lille ad Lyon).

The table

After losing to Metz (1-2 last Sunday, OGC Nice have dropped into the bottom quarter of the league table for the first time this season (16th). The Rouge et Noir are equidistant - 6 points - from 10th place and 18th position, the promotion/relegation play-off position (currently filled by FC Lorient).
