4 December: Adrian Ursea replaces Patrick Vieira

A look back at the 10 stand out dates of 2020 for OGC Nice.

Dante’s injury hit the squad hard. After Angers, the team lost five matches on the bounce including a derby defeat against Monaco, slowly slipping down into mid-table and saw their Europa League campaign come to an end. On 4 December, Adrian Ursea was officially named as the new head coach of the first team, replacing Patrick Vieira who joined the club in 2017.

Lucien Favre’s assistant between 2015 and 2017, a reputed coach and true man of the club, Ursea (53 years old) returned to Le Gym in November 2019 as part of Patrick Vieira’s coaching staff. More than one year later, he took over the reins of the club with one main objective: reestablish the squad’s confidence.

After a draw at Reims, a defeat at Beer-Sheva, his side got back to winning ways in Nîmes, on Matchday 15 of L1 (0-2).

It’s worth noting that two new faces appeared among the coaching staff. Former captain of Le Gym turned academy coach, Didier Digard became first team coach. Already at the club during Fred Antonetti’s reign, Nicolas Dyon came on board to take charge of the physical preparation.
