The Gym’s 20 goals under the microscope

The Aiglons have scored 20 goals in all competitions since the start of the 2020-21 campaign. While the Rouge et Noir boys are having some time off during the international break, OGCNICE.com is putting those first 20 goals, provided by 10 different goalscorers, under the microscope.

This season the Aiglons have managed to score just as many goals in the first half as they have in the second period, notching 10 times before half-time and 10 times after the break.

However, these Nice stats do show that the team is particularly dangerous in the middle of the first half. The Rouge et Noir have scored six times between the 16th and the 30th minute.

How the goals have been scored

Of the Gym’s 20 goals, 14 have been scored with the right foot. Amine Gouiri leads the way on that front. All of the Aiglons’ top goalscorer’s six strikes have come from his preferred right foot.

Four goals have been struck with the left foot. These were Thuram’s strike against Nantes (2-1, Matchday 6 of L1), Lees-Melou’s at Saint-Etienne (1-3, Matchday 7 of L1), Rony Lopes’ at Angers (0-3, Matchday 9 of L1) and Dan Ndoye’s in Prague (3-2, Matchday 3 of the Europa League).

Both of skipper Dante’s goals this season have come from headers, at Montpellier (3-1, Matchday 3 of L1) and against Nantes (2-1, Matchday 6 of L1). The Brazilian defender is the only Gym player to have scored a header during the 2020-21 season.

All of the Gym’s 20 goals were scored from within the opponents’ box. Two of them were right on the edge of the area: “PLM” against Saint-Étienne and Gouiri’s effort away to Leverkusen (6-2, Matchday 1 of the Europa League).

The Aiglons have scored 15 times in Ligue 1 and five times in the Europa League. Having played away more than at home, it means that they have also scored more goals on the road (13) than they have at the Allianz Riviera (7).

10 Aiglons have been on the scoresheet this season: Gouiri (6 goals), Dolberg, Lees-Melou (3), Dante (2), Myziane, Ndoye, Claude-Maurice, Thuram, Boudaoui and Rony Lopes (1).
